Guidance for Visitors

Daytime use:-

Map of the School

Please follow the link to a map of the school. It clearly shows all fire exits and corridors are shaded grey to make routes to the fire doors easy to follow. It also shows emergency evacuation routes through the Art and Music rooms and details the location of lifts, ramps and toilets suitable for the use of people with disabilities.

Please read this information carefully and locate your nearest exit to the muster point - the car park at the front of the school between the Academy and The Primary School. In the case of an evacuation no one may re-enter the school until the Fire Service or Head Teacher has given permission.

Security

The Academy has its own security system. Visitors should ring the bell beside the front door and once identity has been established the secretary will allow access. Always enter and exit the building by the main entrance except in a fire alarm situation.

Arriving and Leaving the School

All visitors are requested to report to the school office and sign themselves in and use their VISITOR pass whilst in the building.

On departure, all visitors are asked to sign out and return their VISITOR pass to the School Office.

Evening Class Use:-

Entry to the School

Visitors using the school in the evenings should enter by the front door and make their way to their class. They should also leave by the front door only. The Janitor will lock the front door 15 minutes after the class starts.

Fire Evacuation

The person in charge of the class is responsible for keeping an up to date register of the people present for each session. They should also ensure the class knows the nearest exit in case of an evacuation.

At the beginning of a new session the Janitor will sound the fire alarm for 5 seconds to familiarise the class with the sound of the alarm.

A torch is located in the Administration Room, the Gym and the Janitor's Office to help with your safe evacuation should there be power failure.

Evening Classes should use the same muster point - the car park at the front of the school between the Academy and The Primary School. In the case of an evacuation, the person in charge of the class should take the register with him/her to the muster point and check that all the class is present. No one may re-enter the school until permission has been given from the fire service or Janitor.

Telephone

The Academy has an internal telephone system.

If you have any problems contact the Janitor on extension 234. There is also a pay phone situated outside the Home Economics room if you need to obtain an outside line.

At the end of the Class

All evening classes are scheduled to finish at 9.00 pm. The Janitor will sound a warning bell at 8.50 pm and a final one at 9.00 pm to indicate the end of the session.

Care of Property

Any damage or problems with equipment should be reported to the Janitor before the class leaves the building. If you are using the Gym please make sure your trainers have non-marking soles.
